The V-44G Pelican is the seventh generation of the Joint Heavy Lift (JHL) Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) Quad Tilt Rotor (QTR) aircraft. The original design was developed for the US military. After the world went to shit, many of them were sold off to Private Military Corporations (PMC) aka mercenaries.
They still build new ones, but they are mostly seen with the big corporations. Those on the common market are older, surplus models (often E- and F-models upgraded to the G-standard). As of the E-model, the aircraft were design from the ground up for rig flying, including remote satellite link. After seven generations to work the bugs out, the resulting G-models are rugged and tough birds, even the old ones. They have to be to survive hard use in combat with minimal maintenance.
There are numerous variants, including pure cargo, gunship, C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance), medevac and CSAR (combat search and rescue). Because of the ship's size and military green base paint scheme, the QTRs are nicknamed the Jolly Green Giant.
Medi-Valk's CSAR variant QTR is called Mayhem. The V-44 was chosen in part because of its 40 ft long, 10 ft wide and 9 ft TALL cargo compartment, which allows the trolls to operate standing up. It is an older E-model upgraded to the G-standard.
